Der Open Source Gedanke
Das neuartige Lichtkonzept, für den Leichtbau adaptierte Basaltfaser, Elektroantrieb und ein Rolling Chassis bergen viel Potential für ein neuartiges Automobilkonzept. Viele der heute gezeigten Technologien befinden sich noch im frühen Stadium der Entwicklung. Daher haben wir das „Light Car“ bewusst als Open Source Projekt ausgelegt und wollen hiermit andere Unternehmen ansprechen mit uns gemeinsam das „EDAG Light Car – Open Source“ weiterzuentwickeln.

Dabei definieren wir den Adressatenkreis bewusst weit, um neue Denkansätze in das Automobil der Zukunft mit einfließen zu lassen. Computer- und Softwareentwickler sollen genauso ihre neuen Technologien zur Anwendung bringen wie die Spezialisten für (O)LED Licht-Technik, neue Werkstoffe, wie zum Beispiel die Basaltfaser, oder Elektroantriebe.

Die EDAG Gruppe stellt hierfür das Light Car als Innovationsträger und Plattform und integriert dann gemeinsam mit dem(n) Partner(n) die Technologie ins Fahrzeug.

Wir freuen uns über Unternehmen, die an zukunftsweisenden Technologien im Bereich Licht, Leichtbau, Interieur, Antrieb und Fahrwerk arbeiten.

Einige Vorgaben:

  • Es muss sich um ein Fahrzeug handeln, welches über einen alternativen Antrieb (gewünscht monovalenter E-Antrieb) verfügt.
  • Das Fahrzeug soll bis zur IAA 2009 spätestens aber zu Genf 2010 fahrbar sein.
  • Beim Fahrzeug handelt es sich um eine Prototypenzulassung.
  • Die Innovationen müssen der EDAG kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt werden.
  • Projektstandort ist Fulda.
  • Gibt es mehrere gleichartige Innovationen zu einem Thema, entscheidet die EDAG, mit welchem Partner sie gehen möchte.


Detaillierte Informationen zum Projekt werden den Projektpartnern in einem geschlossenen Bereich auf der Homepage www.edag-light-car.com zur Verfügung gestellt. Die Präsentation des fahrbaren Fahrzeuges auf allen Messen, Veranstaltungen oder in sonstigen Unterlagen passiert immer mit der Nennung der Projektpartner. Diese dürfen auch mit dem Light Car OS in Verbindung mit EDAG werben.

The Open Source Idea
The innovative lighting concept, basalt fibre adapted to make it suitable for lightweight construction, an electric drive system and rolling chassis all offer great potential for a new vehicle concept. Many of the technologies shown today are still in the early stages of their development. For this reason, we have deliberately set this up as an open source project, and would like to approach other companies which might want to work with us on developing the "EDAG Light Car - Open Source".

We have made a deliberate decision to address ourselves to a wide circle, to enable new notions to be absorbed into the car of the future. Computer and software developers are to apply their new technologies in exactly the same way as specialists in (O)LED lighting technology, new materials (e.g. basalt fibre), or electric drive do.

To this end, the EDAG Group will be supplying the Light Car as the platform and source of innovation, and, with its partner(s), it will then integrate the technology into this vehicle.

We look forward to hearing from companies working on future-orientated technologies in the fields of lighting, light-weight design, interior, drive systems and chassis.

Some specifications:
  • The vehicle must feature an alternative drive system (preferably monovalent electric drive).
  • The car should be in running condition for the IAA 2009, or for Geneva 2010 at the latest.
  • The car must have prototype design approval.
  • Innovations must be made available to EDAG free of charge.
  • The project location is to be EDAG Fulda.
  • Should there be several innovations on one and the same subject, EDAG will decide which partner to join.


Detailed information on the project will be made available to the project partners in a closed section of the homepage www.edag-light-car.com. Whenever the mobile vehicle is presented at fairs and events, or in any documents, the name of the project partner will always be given. Partners may also use the Light Car OS in connection with EDAG for advertising purposes.
